Assemble your own Moog, and take it home for keeps.

This two session workshop is open to anyone with an interest in creating music with a synthesizer. A technical or formal music knowledge is not required, nor is experience with electronics, piano or keyboards. Whether you are interested in buying your first synthesizer, or you just wanted to know more about synthesizers, you will find this workshop valuable. This workshop is part of the Function Keys Conference.

Morning Session ($10/PWYC)

Each topic will include demonstrations using a large modular, desktop digital & hybrid synths or all-in-one analog synths. The morning session will focus on the topics of:

  • The world synthesizers: Discussions on the differences between analog, digital and hybrid synths and the use of “The patch”.
  • The synth voice: Monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers and how many notes a synth can play at the same time.
  • Extended effects: Glide, arpeggiators, sequencers, pitch wheels and slides.
  • Connectivity 1: Controlling your synth with CV, MIDI, MPE & Polyphonic after-touch.
  • Connectivity 2: Connecting your synth to external sequencers, clocks, Ableton Live (DAW), keyboards and other synths.
  • Open discussion with Q & A.

Each topic will include demonstrations using a large modular, desktop digital & hybrid synths or all-in-one analog synths.

Afternoon Session ($350*):

The afternoon session will be devoted to assembling your own (yes to take home) Moog Werkstatt desktop synthesizer. No prior knowledge of electronics, nor special tools or soldering is required.

  • Assembling your Werkstatt.
  • Discussions on using, patching and the care of your Werkstatt.
  • Concepts from the morning session will be demonstrated on the Werkstatt.
  • Open discussion with Q & A.
